The old Mexican restaurant El Faro in San Francisco remains open despite three break-ins and plans to sell

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — An old Mexican restaurant that was threatened with closure because of three break-ins in a week plans to stay open, at least for now.

Surveillance video from El Faro earlier this month shows a broken window and a suspect inside the Mission District restaurant.

Owner Raymunda Ramirez says she became so discouraged by the break-ins that she wanted to close the restaurant after working there for 45 years and as owner for more than 20 years.

Her niece has set up a GoFundMe page to help with repairs.

Ramirez says that despite several requests to buy the popular burrito joint, she hopes to hold out for two more years until she retires. She praises a supportive community.

“I want to say to everyone who helps us, ‘Thank you.'” I’m so happy about that because I know a lot of people love El Farro’s burritos because they say when I sell out or leave, I don’t feel good “More so happy and more comfortable because I’m more confident. I know people love me,” she said with a smile.

Ramirez says she is still concerned about crime but will use the funds raised to secure the windows.
