Does the bye week come at a bad time for Georgian football?

This year of college football is unlike any other as teams have two bye weeks instead of one like we’re used to. That’s where Georgia football finds itself after its surprising 30-15 win over No. 1 Texas.

Normally, bye week is a welcome place, even if it means we have a week where we can’t watch Georgia play football. This is because it is a great time for the team to get extra rest, recovery and get more players healthy and ready to play.

But does Georgia’s bye week come at a bad time this week?

Yes, this week off will still be good for Georgia when it comes to recovering from their injuries. The best example is offensive lineman Tate Ratledge, who has been out for nearly a month but is close to returning, according to Kirby Smart. This extra week off should give him enough time to get back to 100 percent health before Georgia’s next game against Florida in two weeks.

Even if that’s the case, I still think the bye week comes at a bad time for Georgia.

It’s no secret that Georgia’s momentum is currently at an all-time high following their away win against the No. 1 team. So I fear the momentum will slow during the bye week.

I want Georgia to ride the wave of their victory over Texas for as long as possible, especially since they have two very strong opponents in Ole Miss and Tennessee. While the bye week is good for many other reasons, I wish it wasn’t happening now because it could kill all the momentum Georgia has after their big win.

Maybe I’m overthinking this (which is probably the case), but we can’t deny that this is a possibility. Georgia lost to Alabama after the first bye week and looked terrible early in the game, which isn’t always what you expect after a bye. Hopefully the team has learned its lesson and doesn’t get off to a slow start again when it faces Florida in two weeks.
