The cool and accessible Farer field watch collection 2024

British brand Farer has introduced three updated field watches that are sequels to the original trio from 2021. The names are the same, albeit now with a Roman numeral II, but otherwise most things have changed. Knowing the collection, the overall feel is still familiar, even if the case, bracelet and dials have undergone significant facelifts. Each watch is named after a national park in the UK (Pembroke, Lomond and Exmoor), while other Farer collections are named after significant people (they are all linked to something to do with England). Color and contemporary design dominate the dial designs, which are all different yet connected.

The brushed stainless steel case has been redesigned compared to previous models with a significantly slimmer bezel for a larger dial. The screw-down crown is also 35% wider, making it easier to handle on the go, and features Farer’s signature bronze insert. Water resistance is 150 meters, which is 50 meters less than the older models but still ideal for field observations and even light diving. At 38mm in diameter and 11.7mm tall (up from 38.5mm and 12.3mm), the case shrinks slightly, but the lug-to-lug distance remains at a very pleasing 45mm.

A sapphire crystal with three anti-reflective coatings protects the dial and the caseback is solid with a customizable serial number (125 examples of each model will initially be produced). Standard features include a 20mm three-link bracelet with quick-release levers and on-the-fly micro adjustments (up to 4.2mm), as well as a canvas fabric strap with rubber lining and leather reinforcements.

There are three distinctive dials available, each named after national parks: Pembroke II, Lomond II and Exmoor II. The Pembroke II has changed the most from the original Pembroke, now with a textured sand-colored dial and navy blue Arabic numerals and lines . These and the matte black central time hands feature matching X1 Super-LumiNova, while a fourth hand date hand is white with a red tip. Calendar days are printed on the peripheral flange, with the last four in red (for style purposes only and all three dials have this).

The Lomond II and Exmoor II are more similar to their predecessors with differences in hand colors, numeral placement, etc. The Lomond II features a textured navy blue dial and yellow numerals/markers, while the Exmoor II features a textured green dial with white Arabic numerals and outer yellow dots. All of them are pointer date models with plenty of Super-LumiNova.

Powering the new Farer 2024 Field Watch collection is the same Sellita SW221-1 as before, with 26 jewels, a beat frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and a power reserve of up to 41 hours. Functions include central hours, minutes, stop seconds and hand date. This is the pointer date variant of the Sellita SW200 and an alternative to the ETA 2836-2.

All three Farer Field Watch models are priced the same £1,095, 1,295 euros or $1,250and shipping is expected by December 4thJune 2024. For more information and to purchase, please visit farer.com.
