BOSTON – Cape Cod communities have received approximately $1 million in grants from the state of Massachusetts to strengthen coastal resilience.

Barnstable will use its share to advance a project to relocate Sandy Neck Beach’s parking lot and gatehouse to a more inland location and to restore the dunes.

Brewster will continue his partnership with Dennis and Orleans to advance a regional coastal management strategy for their shared 14.5 mile stretch of Cape Cod Bay shoreline and create an online public data portal.

Falmouth will evaluate the performance and longevity of beach and dune nourishment structures in storm conditions for the Surf Drive area. The city will also continue an outreach program warning of flood risks.

And Yarmouth will work to maintain access to the Packet Landing Marina, which is at risk of coastal flooding.

“Climate change poses not only an environmental threat to our coast, but also an economic threat to our state,” said Governor Maura Healey. “Recent hurricanes have underscored the urgency of this issue and reminded us that we must be proactive in protecting our communities.”
