Ranieri warns Roma and Everton owner Friedkin: “Money isn’t everything”

Former Roma coach Claudio Ranieri admits the Friedkin family have made significant investments in the club but “money is not everything” as the Giallorossi lack a senior director.

Roma sit 10th in the Serie A table and fans are angry with the owners after Daniele De Rossi was sacked last month. What angers fans even more is the lack of communication from the owners. The Ultras made their feelings clear on Sunday evening when they left the Curva Sud empty in the first 15 minutes of a Serie A game against Inter.

“Roma seem to have a cold soul with no personality,” Ranieri told Radio 1 on Monday morning, quoted by TMW.

“I didn’t understand what they did with De Rossi. If you confirm him with a three-year contract, you are telling the world that you are building a new team. At this point you have to give the trainer time, you can’t fire him after four rounds.

“The Roma are missing a leader. You can’t blame the Friedkins because they invested a lot of money, but they prove that money isn’t everything. You are missing a point of reference within the club. Roma is a unique place; The fans need to be helped and supported, but it seems cold now.”

De Rossi’s successor, Ivan Juric, has two wins, two draws and two defeats in his first six games as Giallorossi coach.

The Friedkin family acquired the Giallorossi in 2020 from American businessman James Pallotta. At the end of September 2024, the Friedkin Group acquired a majority stake in the Premier League club Everton.
