Calm weather on the Sunny Coast as tropical systems remain distant

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Cool overnight temperatures combined with warm and increasingly humid afternoons continue along the Sunny Coast. The breezy winds we have experienced continue to transport surface moisture from the waters of the Atlantic to the Sun Coast, slowly moistening our surface air. Aloft, the buildup and spread of high pressure will reduce our chance of rain again this week.

There will be subtle and slowly evolving changes to our weather. First, the fresh winds will subside. Winds will remain strong today that the Small Craft Advisory will remain in place. However, conditions for wind and water-related sports, including boating, could be more favorable tomorrow than in the last four or five days.

The continued flow of air from the northeast will continue to push dew points into the low 70s over the next few afternoons, and for many it will feel a bit sticky in the afternoon. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s this week, bringing us back to more normal temperatures for this time of year, with some slightly above normal temperatures midweek.

The possibility of one or two sprinkles inland is not ruled out, but the probability is very low. There will be cumulus clouds in the afternoon, but not strong enough to prevent mostly to partly sunny afternoon skies.

A backdoor cold front will move into the area at the end of the work week or beginning of the weekend, with little more to notice than slightly lower humidity and possibly a slight increase in wind speeds over the weekend.

High pressure in the Atlantic and along the East Coast, combined with the high pressure buildup late in the week as a result of the backdoor cold front, will all act as a deterrent to any tropical paths toward Florida. We’ll keep an eye on Oscar in the Bahamas, but the National Hurricane Center continues to forecast a shift in its path that will send it into open Atlantic waters and away from Florida.
