Banijay Iberia Sport starts in Spain under the leadership of Gonzalo Miró

Banijay Iberia is increasing its investment in Spanish sport with the creation of Banijay Iberia Sports, led by newly appointed director Gonzalo Miró, a well-known television and radio personality in the region.

The new group, unveiled at Mipcom on Monday, will develop and produce original sports-related content, including “sportstainment, documentary and digital content,” the company said.

Led by Pilar Blasco, CEO of Banijay Ibera, the launch of Banijay Iberia Sport follows last year’s launch of Banijay Sport and this year’s opening of LaLiga Studios, a joint initiative with Spain’s leading football competition. According to Banijay Iberia, the creation of the new sports entity strengthens the company’s commitment to the world of sports competition.

Miró began his work in the audiovisual sector as an apprentice on several prestigious short films. After familiarizing himself with the craft, he studied filmmaking in New York before returning to Spain and taking on a role as presenter on “Las mañanas de Cuatro.” Since then he has appeared on numerous Spanish radio and television programs, including Deportes COPE, Radio Marca, “La Roca”, “Liarla Pardo”, “Más vale tarde”, “Espeko Público” and “Celebrity Master Chef”. .”

Commenting on his appointment, Miró said: “It is an honor to be part of Banijay Iberia, a company responsible for great audiovisual successes and at the forefront of innovation and creativity.” I accept this brilliant challenge with great enthusiasm and with the aim of expanding the company’s position as a leading provider of sports content. I am confident that in this way we can attract new talent and pave the way for more sports-related, original stories to come to the screen.”

Blasco, CEO of Banijay Iberia, added: “Banijay Iberia’s entry into sports began in 2023 with the creation of LaLiga Studios. Today, as a complement to Banijay Entertainment’s broader global sports initiatives, we are reinforcing our commitment to diversifying our offering in this way, taking advantage of market opportunities and demand through the creation of Banijay Iberia Sports, a new division led by Gonzalo Miró. We welcome him to our ambitious talent collective and look forward to continuing to explore alternative avenues of storytelling in this emerging field.”
