Trenton Tigers state champs, New Town Eagles fourth | News, sports, jobs

The 2024 NDHSAA 6-Man State Championship football games took place on Saturday, October 19, at Minot High’s Duane Carlson Stadium, with the fifth-place game first between the fifth-seeded Parshall/North Shore-Plaza Braves and sixth-seeded Warwick Warriors was held.

The competition for third place was between the third-place Center-Stanton Wildcats and the fourth-place New Town Eagles. The title game was between the top-ranked Trenton Tigers and the second-ranked Drayton Bombers.

Trenton 76, Drayton 50

The title game between the Tigers and Bombers lived up to 6-man expectations. With less than two minutes left in the second quarter, Trenton’s score was 26-20. It didn’t start out that way, as Drayton scored on its first offensive series to take a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Within two minutes of the game starting, the score was 6-6 after big plays from both teams.

The game was tied 20-20 with one minute left in the first quarter as both teams moved the ball evenly and the second quarter began with an even score.

The Tigers scored additional points in the third and fourth quarters to defeat the Bombers and the state championship.

Center Stanton 74,

Neustadt 52

The New Town Eagles fell behind early in the third-place game against Center-Stanton as the third-place Wildcats led 18-0 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams had scored at halftime, making it 34:14 at the start of the second half. Wildcats started the second half of the game.

With less than a minute left in the third quarter, the Eagles scored, took the lead and cut the game deficit to 34-20. The gap increased less than a minute later when Center-Stanton extended the lead to 42-20. At the end of the third quarter, the Wildcats had built a 50-34 lead heading into the final quarter of the game.

New Town was able to continue the pursuit and close the distance. Less than three minutes into the final quarter, Center-Stanton was ahead 56-40, and five minutes later the Wildcats were down 56-46. This brought the Eagles so close to catching up.

Center-Stanton took third place, while New Town secured fourth place.

Parshall/North Shore-Plaza 64, Warwick 33

The fifth-place Parshall/North-Shore Braves faced the sixth-place Warwick Warriors and the outcome of the game was determined by the ranking of the teams entering the game.
