BMW F 900 GS TracTive X-Treme Pro suspension kit – first look

The new BMW F 900 GS features a new suspension upgrade package – the TracTive X-Treme Pro suspension kit. Although a kit, the new X-Treme shock and fork installations are sold separately by TracTive, the Netherlands-based two- and four-wheel suspension experts. With that in mind, let’s look at them one by one.

The BMW F 900 GS X-Treme Pro shock is available in three flavors at a list price of 999 euros. There’s a standard-length version, a long-travel version that offers three-quarters of an inch more travel, and a low version that reduces the ride height by a full inch. As you would expect from a premium shock absorber, the TracTive X-Treme Pro unit is fully adjustable.

The X-Treme Pro shock features a 46mm piston that allows for high and low speed compression damping and rebound damping adjustment. The shock absorber is available with manual spring preload adjustment, or the hydraulic preload adjuster, which changes spring preload in 0.4-inch increments, is available as an option for €250. A hydraulic end stop on the X-Treme Pro shock absorber prevents hard bottoming.

Like the shock absorber, the TracTive X-Treme front cartridge kit for the BMW F 900 GS is available in three heights to match the shock absorber and has an RRP of 1,249 euros. The fork has a click knob for rebound and damping adjustment on the fork leg caps. Inside there are 35mm pistons for the closed cartridge configuration. Spring preload is adjustable over a range of nearly half an inch.

The damping adjustment range is intended to suit on- and off-road riders. The TracTive X-Treme fork set and shock components are CNC machined from appropriate materials for the job. This enables a two-year guarantee on the fully functional devices.
