Bedrooms and washrooms revealed on The Block 2024

So who delivered the best version and won $10,000? And who left the judges feeling like they saw a missed opportunity?

Courtney and Grumpy (First Place)
Through the barn doors and into a room full of Kinsman joinery complementing a Kolbi Grounded Dusk Walnut bed, the judges loved what was effectively a separate apartment in House 2. From Freedom’s Calm Creation artwork to the HomePro raked linen Grafico wallpaper Featuring a king-size bed (with Maison Deux checkerboard blanket) and an adjacent lounge that could sleep two additional people, this was a second main wing, said the jury, and about great added value. Compliments kept coming to the laundry room, with the spacious Asko washing machine and dryer (plus closet), perfect for a full house.

Ricky and Haydn (second place)
Bunk beds and a sofa bed? This means Ricky and Haydn’s house can now accommodate 12 people – a huge plus, the jury said. Using Grafico wallpaper, Kinsman wardrobes and HomePro curtains, the boys had created a new living space that would be perfect as a teen wing – especially given the playroom next door! But as impressed as they were, it was the lingerie that blew the judges away. “Day-long storage, plenty of bench space, great appliances,” said the judges, “and with so many kids staying here, this is the laundry you need!” Add a powder room with a pedestal sink from Nood Co added, and Darren called this the work of “Ricky and Haydn V2.0” and loved every part of it.

Kylie and Brad (third place)
With bold striped Grafico wallpaper, “perfect” wall sconces, and Kinsman furniture in Kylie and Brad’s signature dark tones, the judges loved House 4’s new private bedroom, especially Corinne Melanie’s Rug Addiction artwork carpet and the Black Mango vanity… but not the layout and planning. “A bedroom needs to be cozy and huggable,” Marty said, “and this week’s bedroom doesn’t do that.” “The bed is too close to the door,” he said, ignoring the possible view. And without Sheer, Shaynna added, the echo was palpable. But into the laundry and everyone was impressed. “Serene and discreet,” concluded Darren as he looked at the Kinsman cabinets hiding high-end Miele appliances, a Dekton back panel and a robot cleaner on standby. “It’s a very functional space – without flaunting the function.”

Kristian and Mimi (fourth place)
With a banana color palette, rattan furniture and plenty of Kinsman storage, Mimi and Kristian created a beautiful bedroom, the judges said…but did they even need a bedroom? “It’s beautiful,” Shaynna said, admiring B.Twomey’s two stunning pieces of art and the Cotton Star armchair, “but is it right?” The plans Marty pointed out called for a living room, and that’s exactly what needed the house. However, she was excited about the laundry. “I didn’t even know I wanted eco-friendly laundry equipment until today,” said Darren as he inspected the e&s LG Washtower washer and dryer combination, “but now I do!” With plenty of storage space – important for a room next to the pool -, perfect joinery and Dekton tiles, this was the wash of the day that Marty added, despite the lack of waterproofing.

Maddy and Charlotte (fifth place)
The layout was perfect and the plan inspired, the judges thought as they arrived at House 1, but it was all apparently too much for sisters Maddy and Charlotte, whose bedroom was still unfinished. The idea of four additional beds caught Darren’s attention, adding, “The craftsmanship of the bed is outstanding,” but even the beautiful furniture from Kinsman and the artwork from Michelle Keighley weren’t enough for Marty and Shaynna. It wasn’t luxurious enough, they thought, and abandoned the house. Into the laundry room and everyone was okay with the bathroom access and the French pattern tiles, but where were the appliances? An LG Styler cabinet was still packed, along with a washer and dryer, but it was hard to judge their effectiveness, jurors said, when they weren’t in place. A rare mistake for the girls, they decided.
