Dodgers win NLCS over Mets, advance to World Series for first time since 2020

The Los Angeles Dodgers return to the World Series.

For the 22nd time in franchise history – and fourth time in the last eight years – the Dodgers won the National League pennant.

The Dodgers defeated the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series in six games, clinching the series with a 10-5 victory in Game 6 at Dodger Stadium. With the win, the Dodgers will officially face the New York Yankees in this year’s World Series.

The Mets scored first in a bullpen game against Michael Kopech, scoring one hit early in the first inning on a poor throw by Chris Taylor to second base.

The Dodgers responded quickly, however, as Tommy Edman hit a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning, striking out Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández.

In the bottom of the third inning, Edman struck out again, this time hitting a two-run home run, his first of the postseason.

A few batters later, Will Smith hit a two-run home run, and suddenly the Dodgers had a commanding 6-1 lead.

The Mets didn’t have it easy, however, as Mark Vientos hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning, cutting the lead to three. However, the Dodgers added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Ohtani hit an RBI single, extending his streak to 18 of 22 with runners in scoring position.

The Mets scored on Daniel Hudson in the top of the seventh inning, making the score 7-4. However, Blake Treinen threw a scoreless pitch in the eighth inning that put the team out, and the Dodgers’ offense continued in the bottom half of the inning.

Mookie Betts hit an RBI double and Teoscar Hernández hit a sacrifice fly, giving the Dodgers a 9-4 lead. Then Kiké Hernández hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 10-4.

Treinen gave up a run in the ninth inning, but it wasn’t enough for New York.

The Dodgers have officially punched their ticket to the World Series.
