One-year UNC basketball starter is released by the NBA team

UNC basketball graduate Pete Nance, who went undrafted in 2023, signed a two-way contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers back in February. That opportunity ultimately led to the 6-foot-2, 220-pound forward making eight regular-season appearances as an NBA rookie.

However, he only scored three points in his 27 minutes as a substitute for the Cavaliers last season.

And so it wasn’t all that surprising that Nance, a native of Akron, Ohio, started 30 games for the Tar Heels in 2022-23, averaging 30.1 minutes per appearance after excelling in his four seasons as a stretch starter. Four-talent had steadily improved Northwestern did not receive another two-way contract from the Cavaliers until the 2024-25 regular season.

However, for the second consecutive year, Nance joined Cleveland’s training camp roster by signing an Exhibit 10 contract.

However, the Cavaliers only called his number twice in their four-game preseason, which equates to 10 minutes of play in which he went scoreless. Cleveland then waived him on Saturday.

Pete Nance, son of Cavaliers star Larry Nance and younger brother of veteran Atlanta Hawks forward Larry Nance Jr., will likely finish his second professional season with the Cleveland Charge, the G League affiliate of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He averaged 13.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for the Charge last season.
