“Deadpool & Wolverine overtakes Barbie for top domestic box office of all time”

Deadpool and WolverineThe record-breaking box office streak hit another milestone this weekend as Marvel Studios and Disney’s R-rated hit surpassed Barbie ranked 12th on the list of highest-grossing films of all time at the domestic box office, not adjusted for inflation.

On the weekend Deadpool and Wolverine took in another $679,000 after Disney, in a final push before theatrical release ended, increased the film’s theater count from 990 to 1,500 theaters nationwide. The Ryan Reynolds-High Jackman crowd-pleaser ended Sunday with a domestic total of $636.3 million, compared to $636.2 million for Greta Gerwig and Warner Bros.’s acclaimed meta-comedy.

Barbiehowever, is still ahead of that Dead Pool threequel worldwide with global sales of $1,446 billion. The family-friendly, PG-rated film is ranked 15th on the all-time list of the world’s highest-grossing films.

Deadpool and Wolverine is also a worldwide sensation and the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. Last weekend, Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi was kicked out of the top 20 when Deadpool and Wolverine took his place. This weekend, its worldwide gross is $1.336 billion.

It’s just one of the many box office records the gathering of Marvel’s most misanthropic superheroes has broken since its summer release, including the biggest opening weekend for an R-rated film ($211 million). As for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Deadpool and Wolverine is the seventh-highest-grossing film of 31 releases at the worldwide box office and the fifth-largest domestically.

Deadpool and Wolverine is also the second-biggest film of 2024 so far, after Pixar and Disney Inside Out 2which earned $652.9 million domestically and $1.694 billion worldwide.
