The DCEU’s Suicide Squad Is Truly Awesome (If You Ignore One Thing)

The DCEU’s Suicide Squad Is Truly Awesome (If You Ignore One Thing)

Even around 10 years after the initial publication Suicide Squad is still simultaneously one of the most polarizing DC Comics adaptations and most controversial comic book films ever made. Task Force X’s big screen debut has equally passionate defenders and vicious critics. Fans consider it one of the most underrated and unfairly maligned films of its kind, while critics say it is one of the worst films in the genre – regardless of his external problems and Warner Bros.’ well-documented intervention. The debate was heightened when writer/director David Ayer confirmed the existence of a director’s cut that has not yet seen the light of day.

However, the one Suicide Squad Fans and haters alike agree that Enchantress was the worst part of the movie. This isn’t because Cara Delevingne was miscast as Dr. June Moone had. While opinions on Delevingne’s performance are (obviously) subjective, she was perfectly fine in the role. Rather, Enchantress’s flaws were due to the material given to Delevingne. As Task Force Despite its promising and flashy promotional material, Enchantress was so bad that it became a strong contender for becoming one of (if not) the worst comic book villains of all time.

Enchantress clashed with the premise and themes of Suicide Squad

With Enchantress, the film lost its identity and potential

Even if she exists in the DC multiverse and is one of the founding members of the original Task Force X, Enchantress shouldn’t have been Suicide Squad Rogue. It bears repeating that this is not Delevingne’s fault. If anything, she and the rest of the cast — including the controversial Jared Leto’s incredibly polarizing version of The Joker — were one of the film’s few saving graces. Suicide Squad recruited a talented and inspired roster of actors to bring to life a mix of DC Comics’ most famous and least-known supervillains. These villains also received cool and edgy updates that fit Ayer’s dark vision. Even though their characterizations fell flat in places, they were still unique among superhero films and compelling enough. Ayer’s version of “Task Force The Suicide Squad.

However, Enchantress failed for two reasons. Firstly, she was a bad fit Suicide Squad Goals. Second, she was just a poorly written antagonist. Ayer envisioned his addition to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) as a modern war film set in a comic book universe. The modernized and militarized abilities, designs, and personalities of the villains reflect this. Fittingly, he describedSuicide Squad as “The Dirty Dozen with supervillains.” That’s what made the film’s use of a demigod as the main threat so confusing and wrong. Even ignoring the fact that sending mildly powerful mercenaries and convicts to fight an ancient god made a genius mastermind like Amanda Waller look stupid, Enchantress’s very existence clashed with and ignored the rest of the film’s down-to-earth goals which made the Suicide Squad comics so interesting from the start.

‘I Want Closure’: Suicide Squad Director Pushes for ‘Ayer Cut’ to be Released 8 Years Later

David Ayer promotes his original Suicide Squad film, calling it a superior film. Despite years of efforts, Warner Bros. remains silent.

The Suicide Squad was at its best when sent on black ops missions that maintained the preferred status quo of their powerful henchmen. These all-too-real missions reinforced the villains’ intent to be the available pawns of an even more sinister threat, namely the American government and the military-industrial complex. Additionally, the comics’ relevant political commentary was highlighted. Vice versa, The Suicide Squad failed to fulfill its purpose and potential when sent on a typical superhero mission. such as stopping a doomsday supervillain like Enchantress.

This is the very problem that has held back both Task Force X’s latest multiverse-hopping comics and their first DCEU film. It would have made more sense if the villains had been recruited against a rogue state such as they found themselves The Suicide Squad or other low level villains like Black Mask from the underrated Birds of prey. Enchantress, with her plans for world domination and an undead army under her control, was a better fit for a Doctor Fate or Zatanna film. Ayer actually agreed with this sentiment, saying that if he could do the film again he would “…make Joker the main villain and develop a more grounded story.”

The film barely survived their lack and weak presence

The biggest problem with Enchantress was simply the fact that she was a poorly written villain. Suicide Squad came about when every film studio wanted its own Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It was completely obvious what the DCEU was up to Suicide Squad to be their answer to that Guardians of the Galaxy. Despite Ayer’s dark style and goals, the film was packed with witty quips, self-aware quips, and popular needle-punches that would be better off in a typical superhero blockbuster. The depiction of Enchantress as a one-dimensional magical villain who fired a large beam of energy into the sky was such a jarring element. She was essentially a sorceress clumsily shoehorned into a military film. In concept alone, it was indistinguishable from her Thor: The Dark World Malekith the Accursed. It could even be considered a flatter version of Guardians of the Galaxy Ronan the Accuser, but without his parodic intentions.

That’s not to say that adding a threat like an evil wizard to a film about militarized characters wouldn’t work. To be honest, this genre-bending concept can be great if executed well. Such as Aliens, dog soldiers, overlord, predator and the misunderstood Spaceship soldiers proved that this can and should be done more. Unfortunately, Suicide Squad was a poor example of this formula in practice. Taskforce Enchantress was a shallow and boring villain who – along with her brother Incubus – only existed to threaten the world. Even Dr. Moone was just a typical and unforgettable pair of lovers. Dr. Moone wasn’t interesting in her own right and she only appeared in the film to humanize Rick Flag a little. Enchantress and Incubus were just placeholders for storylines that spelled the end of the world, and nothing would have changed if they were replaced by a nuclear bomb.

Suicide Squad Isekai turns one of DC’s fiercest killers into a powerful statement about how wealthy monarchies oppress the poor in society.

With better writing, Enchantress could have been as tragic and meaningful a villain as Starro The Suicide Squad. She also could have been an interesting and unlikable monster for Deadshot, Harley Quinn and the others to kill if the movie called for it. The fact that Enchantress was taken hostage by Waller and forced to use her powers for the government’s purposes showed how much potential she had to be Task Force X’s worthy and thematically sound opponent. But at the end of the day, Enchantress was just another disposable supervillain who fell by the wayside at the height of the superhero boom in the 2010s. Whatever the case, Enchantress’s flaws don’t detract from the fun Suicide Squad can be if you look at it with the right attitude.

Despite its many flaws, whether intentional or not, Suicide Squad Is not the worst comic or action film of all time. Nor is it completely unobservable. Leaving aside its controversy and the exaggerated reactions it provoked, Suicide Squad is – at worst – a high budget and passable version of Aliens And Predators lots of fakes. The film has its moments, enhanced by its impressive star power and gritty production values. Granted, the film loses its bearings when Enchantress shows up, but she’s not so terrible that she makes the film unbearable. The worst thing you can say about Enchantress is that she’s really distracting. She was out of place in a film about the DC Comics villains and wasn’t properly integrated into the film. She stands out in the worst way possible. But when Suicide Squad is seen as the guilty pleasure that it is, even the odd inclusion of Enchantress can’t ruin the whole thing. Still, it’s best to just ignore them.
