Jets player to watch

WR Davante Adams. After being acquired from Las Vegas earlier this week, Adams is reunited with Aaron Rodgers in New York and the two will have the opportunity to re-establish their connection on the field. Adams caught 615 passes from Rodgers for 7,517 yards and 68 touchdowns in eight seasons together in Green Bay. Adams missed the Raiders’ last three games with a hamstring injury that coincided with his trade request, but he is now healthy and ready to play.

Steelers player to watch

QB Russell Wilson. The 35-year-old looks set to be a starter for Pittsburgh after missing the first six games with a calf injury. The nine-time Pro Bowler has only seen one series of action in a preseason game since joining the Steelers in March. But with the passing game declining in recent weeks under Justin Fields, coach Mike Tomlin is likely turning to Wilson in hopes he can help take the team from good to great.

Key match

Pittsburgh’s secondary vs. Rodgers. On Sunday night, the 40-year-old Rodgers will make his fourth career start against the Steelers. Rodgers is 2-1 against Pittsburgh, including a Super Bowl victory following the 2010 season when he played for Green Bay. Pittsburgh’s defense was disruptive, but was also vulnerable to passing plays against experienced quarterbacks. Dak Prescott threw for 336 yards against the Steelers two weeks ago and Joe Flacco came off the bench to throw two touchdowns for the Colts on September 29th. Rodgers rushed for a season-high 294 yards in last week’s loss to Buffalo.

Major injuries

Jets CBs DJ Reed (groin) and Michael Carter II (back) will likely miss the game, leaving New York without two of its key players in the secondary. … The Steelers will be without rookie C Zach Frazier (ankle) and OLB Nick Herbig (hamstring). Pittsburgh is optimistic OLB Alex Highsmith can return after missing three games with a groin injury.

Notes on the series

The Steelers have dominated the series in the past, but have dropped each of their last two meetings with the Jets. It’s indicative of the league’s turbulent nature that New York’s previous visit to Pittsburgh two years ago ended with a 24-20 victory in a game in which two quarterbacks – Zach Wilson (Jets) and Kenny Pickett (Steelers) – were named the future of their respective franchises at that time. Both are playing elsewhere now.

Fantasy tip

In a low-scoring game, it might be worth targeting Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth, who could potentially thrive if Wilson can be effective in game action, an important aspect of first-year offensive coordinator Arthur Smith’s system. Fields struggled to make plays .
