The South Bend Fire Department is hosting an open house for Fire Station No. 8

October is Fire Prevention Month and the South Bend Fire Department celebrated the grand opening of a new fire station on Sunday.

Participants had the opportunity to visit the new fire station.

They were also able to see fire and safety demonstrations and tours of South Bend’s fire engines and rescue vehicles.

Station 8 was originally established by the South Bend Fire Department in 1906 and was located on South Olive Street.

As part of the department’s restructuring, Station 8 was moved to its current location, replacing the then Station 14, which was built in 1957.

Station 8 is one of the three busiest locomotives in the city and members are looking forward to the new location.

We spoke with Nate Yoder, Director of Business Development at R. Yoder Construction.

“I think what we take away is the opportunity to see how the community values their valued first responders to invest in them and give them a facility that truly honors them and allows them to do their jobs to the best of their ability .” “says Yoder.

Station 8 is located at 2402 South Twyckenham Street.
