CUI competes in the 2nd Annual MPSF Open Water Championships

Members of the CUI swim teams competed in the 2nd Annual MPFS Open Water Championships on Saturday at Long Beach Marine Stadium. Competing against D1, D2 and D3 competition, the Golden Eagles posted some solid results in the 2000m relay.

The men’s A 4×500 m relay Mitchell Cullen, Joey Molettieri, Tom McCabe And Hunter May reached the podium in third place behind the teams from CBU and GCU. Mitch got the Eagles into the top three with a strong lead of 5:55, and the trio of Joey, Tom and Hunter finished the game with under 6:30 each.

The men’s B team Andrew Salladin, Garrin Hatfield, Aidan Keane And Lanis Webb took 5th place in the event.

CUI’s women swam well in a larger field of D1 squads. The A relay team of Morgan Warren (6:36), Naomi Nakaya (6:54), Elena Argabright (6:34) and Payton Doak (6:45) stayed in the middle of the peloton throughout the race and finished 7th . place place. The B relay team of Aliyah Treadwell, Bree Anderson, Makayla Novak and Faith Urquhart advanced on a strong leg from Novak to finish 12th, while the C relay team, consisting of CUI freshman sprinters Kassidy Harris, Brinkley Halgren, Julia Smirnoff and Brooke McCoy swam a stable 15th place.

The entire team will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to Pomoma Pitzer for a 10:30 match against the SageHens.
