ESPN’s FPI provides LSU-Texas A&M predictions

ESPN’s Football Power Index revealed who will emerge victorious in this weekend’s crucial matchup between LSU and Texas A&M in College Station, with FPI giving the Aggies a slim 52.7% chance of victory.

After the loss to Notre Dame in Week 1, the nation largely forgot about Mike Elko’s Texas A&M squad, but the team has quietly been one of the most consistent and dominant units in recent weeks. The Aggies picked up wins against then-No. 1 Florida Arkansas. 9 Missouri and most recently Mississippi State. Connor Weigman has returned from injury and is playing well, but the ground attack has stolen the show from the legs of Le’Veon Moss and Amari Daniels, and Elko’s defense has proven weak.

LSU experienced a similar trajectory during its season. A loss to USC in the opening week dampened the program’s expectations, but after victories over South Carolina and Ole Miss came out of the fire, conference title hopes got a boost for Brian Kelly’s team. Then the Tigers impressed with a 34-10 road win over an Arkansas team that had just beaten Tennessee and was coming off a bye week. Garrett Nussmeier continues to lead a balanced offensive attack and the LSU defense appears to be improving every week.

The Tigers and Aggies begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
