Mesilla Marshals arrest a “serial fraudster” from Las Cruces

A Las Cruces woman was arrested again Friday, October 18, by the Mesilla Marshals Office on multiple charges of identity theft, fraud and forgery.

Michelle Renee Casas, 42, was arrested on a Sept. 15 warrant just hours after she was released from custody, Mesilla Marshals said.

Casas has an extensive criminal history of identity theft, fraud and forgery charges dating back to 2016.

According to officials, the Mesilla Marshal’s Office arrested Casas outside a Walmart on Valley Dr. after she asked the Marshal’s Office for her vehicle.

Casas was under the impression that the Mesilla Marshals would drive her to her vehicle, but instead she was taken to the Dona Ana County Detention Center.

The Mesilla Marshals Office investigated Casas.

A press conference will be held on Monday, October 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Mesilla City Hall, 2331 Avenida De Mesilla, New Mexico, where officials will detail the new criminal charges against Casas.
