‘What about the geese?’: Trump ignores Fox News’ live fact check on Haitian immigrants

Former President Donald Trump was confronted about his repeated lies about Haitian immigrants in Ohio in an interview with Fox News on Sunday.

“Media Buzz” host Howard Kurtz asked the ex-president why he didn’t acknowledge that Haitians in Springfield, Ohio, don’t “eat the pets of the people who live there,” as he famously claimed in a September debate.

“I don’t know if it’s true or not,” Trump replied. “What about the geese?”

“What happened to the geese? What happened there? “They’re all missing,” Trump said. “I have no idea, I said something, the big problem is that you can’t put 30,000 people in a city of 50,000 and expect that city to even survive or do well.”

The lie that Haitian immigrants in Ohio eat local pets was amplified by Trump’s vice presidential candidate JD Vance in the Trump campaign. He has refused to back down from the story, even after it was debunked by local police and the city’s mayor. Vance went on to say that he was “making up a story” to address the larger issue.

Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric, centered on the promise of mass deportations, continues. In a town hall meeting on Wednesday, the ex-president again claimed that Haitians “also eat other things that they shouldn’t eat.”

Trump defended those comments on Sunday, saying he was still not convinced his original claims were untrue.

“I don’t think it’s been exposed at all. I don’t think anyone is talking about it except you,” he said to Kurtz.
