Deshaun Watson is sent off the field

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was carted off the field during Sunday’s (October 20) game against the Cincinnati Bengals with an apparent Achilles tendon injury, ESPN‘S Adam Schefter Reports.

Watson appeared to fall heavily on a non-contact play with 1:21 left in the second quarter and immediately grabbed his right ankle. Players from both teams stood next to Watson on the field before he was carried off the field in a cart.

The Browns replaced Watson with Dorian Thompson Robinson after backup Jameis Winston was inactive as the third emergency quarterback before kickoff. Watson, who is in the third season of a five-year, $230 million guaranteed deal, threw for 128 yards on 15 of 17 passes in Sunday’s game before the injury.

Watson struggled throughout the 2024 NFL season, posting the lowest QBR of any qualified quarterback through his first five games. The former Clemson star was booed by the home crowd as the players were introduced, which was followed by thunderous cheers for the running back Nick Chubbwho returned for his first game since a season-ending injury to start the 2023 season and scored a touchdown in the first half of Sunday’s game.

The Browns trailed the Bengals 7-6 at halftime of Sunday’s game.
