“I think they’re doing it well” – Game of Thrones’ Kristian Nairn on House of the Dragon and his new memoir

In an interview with CBR, Game of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn shares details about his colorful life, captured in his new memoir, Beyond the Throne.

House of the Dragon is created and executive produced by showrunner Ryan Condal and author George RR Martin, based on his 2018 book Fire and blood. The acclaimed series also currently stars Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra, Olivia Cooke as Alicent, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Ewan Mitchell as Prince Aemond, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria, Phia Saban as Helaena Targaryen and Harry Collett stars as Jacaerys Velaryon and more. Last season ended with Team Black preparing their armies and allies for an all-out war against Team Green after Alicent revealed Aegon’s current situation to Rhaenyra.

Shortly after the second season finale aired, Martin voiced his criticism of the final season in a now-deleted blog entry, saying, among other things, that the series mishandled some of its characters. In a statement, an HBO representative responded to Martin’s controversial post, reminding viewers that adapting existing material for television has its limitations. Nevertheless, they are convinced that Condal and his team have done “extraordinary work” in the first two seasons. “There are few bigger fans of George RR Martin and his book Fire and blood as the creative team House of the Dragonboth in production and at HBO. “When adapting a book for the screen, with its own format and limitations, the showrunner generally ultimately must make difficult decisions about the characters and stories that the audience will follow,” HBO said.

What’s next for the Game of Thrones franchise?

In an earlier press conference, Condal confirmed this House of the Dragon will end its run with the fourth season, while production on the third season is expected to begin in early 2025. Several Game of Thrones spin-offs are currently in development at HBO. These include: the upcoming ones A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight about two unlikely heroes, Ser Dun the Tall and Squire Egg; and an untitled Aegon’s Conquest series about the Targaryen family’s bloody and violent conquest of Westeros. The Batman – Part II Writer Mattson Tomlin was tapped to write the project.
