Reader’s Opinion: No, FEMA money isn’t going to immigrants – Duluth News Tribune

In response to me, U.S. Rep. Pete Stauber of Hermantown continued to spread lies about FEMA funds going to immigrants. A fact check from MSN revealed the truth.

Federal funds through the Shelter and Services Program (SSP) help asylum seekers and their families. The SSP money is distributed by FEMA, but the money does not come from FEMA’s budget. The money comes from the Customs and Border Protection budget.

FEMA funding needs to be replenished, not because the money is going to immigrants, but because Republicans are idiotically denying climate change and refusing to curb the causes. We must suffer the consequences and costs of rising temperatures on our planet.

House Majority Leader Mike Johnson will not commit to calling Congress back into session to increase disaster relief funding. Survivors need help now to get their lives and businesses back on track. Apparently Republicans would rather spread lies and fear for political gain than help.
