The documents were initially published on Telegram and posted online at the end of the week. According to documents dated October 15 and 16, the Israeli Air Force recently conducted exercises and “rehearsals” in preparation for an attack on Iran.

The documents are attributed to the US Geospatial Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency (GNA) and note that Israel continues to move military assets into place to carry out a military striken Response to the ballistic missile attack by Iran on October 1st. They could be shared within the “Five Eyes”, consisting of the USA, Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

The documents do not contain details or an overall picture of the attack targets, but rather general preparations for a long-range air force attack that the intelligence professionals and the Revolutionary Guards Air Force could have assessed for themselves based on the basic intelligence they already have.

One of the documents said that, according to analysis of various images, the Air Force conducted air-launched ballistic missile (ALBM) exercises, including at least 16 Golden Horizon missiles and 40 Rocks, or ISO2, missiles. The documents also talk about “covert drone activities” and extensive operational exercises. It also reports “secret UAV activity” and claims that the Air Force conducted a “second large-scale operational exercise” between October 15 and 16. The report also said that activities during these days related to the air-surface-air-to-surface missile (ASM) exercise were observed at the Ramat David and Ramon air bases.

Another leaked document, purporting to contain an analysis by the NGA, reported that the IDF also “probably” conducted an aerial refueling exercise on October 16, and included a side note discussing Israel’s apparent ability to use UAVs to provide intelligence in Iran to collect “across the region.”

A U.S. official said the investigation would examine who had access to the documents. CNN noted that procedures stipulate that any such leak will immediately lead to an investigation by the FBI, the Pentagon and the intelligence community.

This could be a deliberate disclosure by the Pentagon, perhaps with the aim of fending off criticism from the progressive camp in the Democratic Party of the Biden administration for not having influence over Israel, and this to the American public – including prime ministers Benjamin Netanyahu – to show – that the US actually has good control over the details.

The leak also lends credibility to this Biden’s statement in Berlinthat he understands how and when Israel would retaliate against Iranian missile attacks.
