Ja Morant will DOMINATE the NBA and win the 2024-25 MVP

According to most sportsbooks, Ja Morant currently has the 10th best MVP odds at +3500. Well-known names like Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic are at the top of the favorites list. Morant’s path to MVP would be somewhat unconventional, but not unrealistic. Just a few years ago he took 7th place in the prestigious award. This year it’s time for him to take it to another level. With the last few seasons put in the rearview mirror, Ja Morant will step up and win the 2024-25 NBA MVP Award!

What happened to Ja last season?

Morant was on his way to superstardom after an incredible 2021/22 season. He was named Most Improved Player after increasing his scoring average from 19.1 to 27.4 and his field goal percentage by nearly 5%. This led to him finishing 7th in MVP voting and the Memphis Grizzlies finishing second in a difficult Western Conference. Everything was fine for Ja Morant. He should be one of the faces of the NBA for years to come. Morant signed a five-year contract worth nearly $200 million to remain a member of the Grizz. Then everything collapsed.

First there was the incident with the Indiana Pacers. Some Pacers got into an altercation with Ja Morant’s father and his good friend Davonte Pack. There was an exchange of words in both directions and Pack had to leave the arena. After the game, some of Morant’s team confronted members of the Pacers’ traveling party. Shortly after, a red laser was reportedly seen aimed at the Pacers bus. Those who reported it were certain it was a weapon. The NBA investigated and couldn’t find out much about the situation, but Davonte Pack was banned from the FedEx Forum for a year.

Then there were the two gun incidents. First, Morant was seen displaying a gun on his Instagram Live in the early morning hours after a loss to the Denver Nuggets at a nightclub in Colorado. Morant took time off from the Grizzlies and was ultimately suspended for eight games. Just two months after the first incident, Morant had another incident. He flashed another weapon, this time on Davonte Pack’s Instagram Live. The same friend who was banned from Grizzlies home games. Commissioner Adam Silver said he was “shocked” by this second offense. This resulted in a 25-game suspension at the start of last season. Just nine match days after the suspension, Ja Morant suffered a torn labrum during team training. This ended his 2023/24 season before it could even really get started.

Is an MVP really possible this year?

The right shoulder is fully healed and Morant is ready to roll. He wants to make another big breakthrough in 2024-25. With everything that’s happened in the last two seasons, his name has drawn a lot of negativity. He is trying to make up for the mistakes of the last two seasons with his play on the pitch. Just a few seasons ago, this was a guy who averaged 27.4 points, 6.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds. Then came a perhaps even better season the next year with numbers like 26.2 points, a staggering 8.1 assists and 5.9 rebounds.

Ja Morant’s game is all about getting into the open court and hitting to the rim. He has absolutely improved as a jump shooter, there is no doubt about that. But he still has a career three-point percentage of 31.8%. He is a capable shooter in catch-and-shoot situations and when things get heated. However, that’s all he needs because you could say he’s the most explosive player in the NBA. His athleticism is truly generational as his vertical is listed at 46 inches. Since he’s only 25 years old and approaching his fifth full season in the league, the sky is truly the limit. I could totally see Morant averaging around 29 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds a night.

The Grizzlies will be a great team!

It’s obvious how important Morant is to this Memphis team. In the 2021–22 season, Ja led the Grizzlies to break their franchise record of 56 wins in a season and finish second in the Western Conference. Then he came back the next season and led them to the two seeds again. How many division titles do you think the Memphis Grizzlies had won in their history before Ja Morant? The answer would be zero. He’s already brought them two, in the seasons I just highlighted. He took over a poverty-stricken franchise and turned it into one of the brightest in the league. The best is yet to come for the Grizzlies.

I love the way Memphis has assembled this roster and assembled elite talent around Morant. Obviously Jaren Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane have become great players, but now Memphis has even more options. I never thought I would highlight Zach Edey at the NBA level because I personally am not a big fan of his game. But I think Memphis is the absolute perfect place for Edey. The core Memphis has around Edey complements his skillset very well. Ja Morant will highlight Zach Edey in ways I never even thought possible. I love the tenacious defense and determined mentality that Marcus Smart will bring. Luke Kennard will be a major three-point threat for this team. Santi Aldama is getting better and I think there’s a good player in Jaylen Wells too. The Grizzlies’ roster management was spectacular. This team has more talent than any team Morant has played on before.

Pay attention to the team’s play to improve Ja Morant’s game even further. This Grizzlies team will finish in the top three in a loaded Western Conference, you can book it now! With the team playing at a high level, Morant will absolutely take the lead. Now it’s time for Ja Morant to take the next step. He can still overcome his recent struggles and be everything we expected him to be. Everything still lies ahead of him. He will have his best season yet and prove the doubters wrong. Look for Ja Morant to win the MVP award in the upcoming NBA season!
