Sherrone Moore recaps Michigan’s road loss to Illinois and what’s next for the Wolverines

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Michigan football team’s difficult 2024 season got even worse Saturday night as the 24th-ranked Wolverines fell to 22nd-ranked Illinois 21-7. The loss dropped the Wolverines to 4-3, their worst seven-game record since 2014. They also lost to Illinois for the first time since 2009 and posted their lowest point total since being shut out by Notre Dame in 2014.

After the game, Michigan coach Sherrone Moore met with reporters to discuss the loss and what happened next. Here’s what he had to say.

On the offensive

Overall, the offense wasn’t good enough at all and was disappointing in many areas. I can’t turn the ball over. We have to get the guys to be able to complete those passes when they’re open, we just have to get better. Thought Colston played well, he made some plays, thought Kalel played well and ran hard. But you have three turnovers in a Big Ten game, no matter who you play, you’re not going to win, so we just have to be better on offense.

What is important in the crime?

I think we just need to reevaluate. We had a bye week and I’m disappointed in myself as head coach that we didn’t come out at a better level. There are too many little things, not enough consistency. And I also have to look at myself, there is no blame. I’m going to re-evaluate myself and see what I need to do to get better, both for them and for the players and coaches.

One when the quarterback battle is still open

Yeah, I mean, we can’t turn the ball over. So you don’t want to go to four quarterbacks, you don’t want to have to go through that process. But you (need) a guy to take care of the football, so you’ll see what we have to do and we’ll have the conversation over time.

If he thinks the team should be better than it is
