In a postseason where outs are becoming increasingly difficult to come by, the New York Yankees only need 27 of them to reach the World Series.

The Yankees and Guardians meet Saturday night in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series, with New York leading 3-1 and facing Game 1 winner Carlos Rodón, facing Cleveland’s Tanner Bibee, in the decider.

But the game will almost certainly come down to the bullpens. The Yankees torched Cleveland closer Emmanuel Clase in consecutive games, but only won one of them as their own ninth-inning man, Luke Weaver, was struck out in Game 3. He should be available on Saturday night, perhaps to be gobbled up by his teammates afterward to win the pennant.

Cleveland would prefer to have a plane back to New York, where Game 6 will be played on Monday night – if necessary.

Follow us for updates on Saturday’s game:

Tanner Bibee didn’t get out of the second inning in his first start against the New York Yankees in the ALCS. But while the Cleveland Guardians are in must-win mode, he delivered exactly what they needed.

Bibee pitched five shutout innings, giving up 10 straight, and Steven Kwan’s RBI single scored the Guardians’ second run, taking a 2-0 lead through five innings of Game 5 on Saturday night.

With Cleveland’s vaunted bullpen clearly gassed after ugly performances in Games 3 and 4, Bibee had to provide some length to take the pressure off his friends. He did just that, scoring five times and inducing a double play.

Meanwhile, Yankees starter Carlos Rodón was removed from the field after 4 2/3 innings. Advantage: Cleveland.

The Cleveland Guardians leaned on the Naylor Bros. to take their first lead in ALCS Game 5.

Bo Naylor capped a 10-pitch at-bat against Carlos Rodón by hitting a double into the right field corner, allowing his brother Josh to hit a full-count, two-out hit against Carlos Rodón for a 1-0 lead to score the New York Yankees

It’s still early, but the Guardians’ vital signs are fine. Rodón, who won Game 1 for New York, threw 40 pitches in two innings, while Guardians starter Tanner Bibee got through the first two innings unscathed.

Gleyber Torres led off the game with a single and the next batter, Juan Soto, doubled to the wall in right-center. On the advice of third base coach Luis Rojas, Torres attempted to score from first base, but Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez made a perfect throw to the plate, with catcher Bo Naylor making the tag.

Starter Tanner Bibee struck out Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm to load the bases, but got Anthony Rizzo to fly to left, stranding all three runners.
