BIG RAPIDS, Mich. –

The Ferris State University football team won its sixth straight game of the year, defeating Michigan Tech University 51-13 thanks to six touchdown passes from quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.

Ferris State, ranked fourth nationally, secured an early lead when quarterback Chambliss caught a 68-yard touchdown pass with Emari O’Brien just over a minute into the game in front of a large crowd of 4,700 fans at Top Taggart Field .

The Bulldogs scored 20 points in the first quarter and 21 in the second. The Huskies scored two field goals and a touchdown in the second quarter, but were otherwise slowed by a strong Ferris State defense.

“It was a great team win,” said head coach Tony Annese. “It was great to have Konnor Near back. We threw for 399 yards, one shy of 400. Great performance from Trinidad. All in all, there’s great stuff out there.”

The win brings the Bulldogs to 6-1 on the season and undefeated in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The team earned a 27-14 win over Wayne State University last week due to lightning and inclement weather in a contest that spanned two days. The only loss came in the season opener against Pittsburg State University.

Chambliss, a junior from Grand Rapids, was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week last week for the third time this season.

“Going into the game, we knew Michigan Tech had a solid defense,” he said. “We just had to play our ball. Our O-line played great. They played their butts off. Our receivers out there were fantastic too.”

Michigan Tech is now 4-3 on the season and 1-2 in the conference. The Bulldogs have now outscored their opponents 316-53 during their six-game winning streak.

“I thought we had a lot of fun today,” said Near, a senior linebacker from St. John’s. “We had a good week of training. Michigan Tech had a few short fields early and we held them to field goals. I couldn’t be happier with the way we played. Now we move forward as a team.”

The Bulldogs look to continue their winning streak next week when the team takes on rival Grand Valley State University at the Anchor-Bone Classic in Allendale. Kick-off is for 3 p.m

Ferris State then heads to Northern Michigan University on November 2nd for its final road game of the regular season before back-to-back home games against Saginaw Valley State University on November 9th and Davenport University on November 9th in Calder City Classic starts November 16th.
