First Dachshund Derby at the Marietta Armory

First Dachshund Derby at the Marietta Armory

MARIETTA, OH. (WTAP) – The Dachshund Derby held on Marietta Main Street was an exciting way to meet other Dachshunds and make new friends.

Bobbi McDonald, an organizer on the planning committee, was excited about the turnout for the derby.

“For the first event, we are over the moon with the turnout and everyone here supporting each other to get their wieners out.”

The day began with a parade from the Armory to Muskingum Park and back, with hundreds of dachshunds on display for the public.

After the parade, the races began, with participants being raced by age group.

“Molly is pretty fast,” Kynzlee Taylor said of her dog. “Let’s just say she’s faster than a Jack Russell.”

“I just like seeing all the dogs,” Rylee Wolfe said. “I think they’re all so cute and they’ll do well in the race.”

McDonald adds that it’s also great to see the community all come together.

“The opportunity to work with other people and bring everyone together is really fun,” McDonald said.
