Carson Beck and the No. 5-ranked Georgia Bulldogs are off to a 5-1 start to the season, but as Beck enters his senior season with the team, NFL officials are beginning to doubt his ability to compete in the big leagues .

“He’s the type of passer that always needs top-notch protection and multiple weapons,” an assistant GM of one AFC team said, according to ESPN’s Jordan Reid. “Look at how different this offense looks without it [Brock] Bowers and [Ladd] McConkey.

Former Bulldogs Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey were key contributors to the team’s offense during their three-year tenure from 2021 to 2023, helping the team secure back-to-back championships alongside quarterback Beck.

Bowers, a tight end, averaged 63.5 yards per game with 26 career touchdowns, while McConkey, a wide receiver, averaged 43.3 yards per game with 14 career touchdowns.

Without the support of these two offensive powerhouses, Beck’s legacy might have been very different.

This season, Beck has a solid offense behind him, but he lacks the star power he had in previous years, raising questions about his ability to be a premier quarterback in the NFL if he can’t develop lower-level players.

“It will always be a challenge for him to develop talent at lower levels and that makes me worried about taking him early, especially if he goes to a bad team.”

Beck is completing 67.9 percent of his passes this season, his lowest in two years, while he is completing 9.5 yards per game, the highest of his career, as he is forced to create opportunities with less offensive support. He also has thrown five interceptions in six games this season, compared to just six interceptions all of last year.

Beck will continue to build his NFL resume as the Bulldogs face their toughest challenge of the season on Saturday against No. 1 Texas.
