Tina Williamson murders lover Jack Rains for money

Former state trooper and former police chief General “Jack” Rains was found slumped over his kitchen table in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, wearing only a T-shirt and boxer shorts. The 83-year-old veteran was shot and discovered by his friends Ronald and Tina Williamson on September 1, 2007. There was no forced entry. No broken windows. There was still a safe in his bedroom.

Police were at a loss as to what had happened to him until neighbors told them a rumor that Rains was dating a younger woman because his wife was living in a nursing home with dementia. Investigators soon turned their attention to the woman who found him dead: 39-year-old Tina Williamson.

“When we hear that Tina and Jack had some kind of intimate relationship, we say, ‘Wow!'” said Ralph Mayercik, a former detective with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office Killer relationship with Faith Jenkins, Airs Saturdays at 8/7c on Oxygen.

Police suspect Jack Rains and Tina Williamson were more than just friends

Tina Williamson and Jack Rains were in business together, selling cars for a profit. Tina Williamson insisted that monitoring of their relationship never went beyond her work, but Rains’ family suspected that he was in a relationship with Tina Williamson.

“Tina tells us that her relationship with Jack is very good friends,” Mayercik said. “He’s almost like family to her. Ron and Jack exchange weapons. They go to gun shows together. Jack comes to their house for dinner. He’s coming to the barbecue.”

However, his family didn’t believe Tina Williamson’s story. “As time went on, he started spending more time with her and stopped coming to his own family, and that was strange for us,” Rachel Farless, Rains’ granddaughter, continued Killer relationship with Faith Jenkins.

When police spoke with Tina Williamson, she said she had seen Rains and had breakfast with him the day he died. She told police that she and her husband went to check on him and found him dead when he did not answer or return their calls later that day.

The coroner determined that he died between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. on August 31, 2007.

Ronald Williamson had an alibi for Rains’ murder and was at work when he was killed. This led police to suspect his wife, Tina Williamson, of Rains’ murder.

Police believe money was the motive for Jack Rains’ murder

Jack Rains was a wealthy man at the time of his death, and police suspected that money was the reason for his murder.

“Jack had quite a bit of money in the bank and also had income from retirement and the rent on the duplex. So Jack was in pretty good financial shape,” Mayercik said.

Because of their joint business, Tina Williamson and Rains had a joint bank account with a balance of $100,000. Tina Williamson could also have received ownership of a semi-detached house if he died.

“You know, after Jack’s death, it’s $280,000 worth of assets,” Mayercik said. “The bank people said that five days after Jack’s death, Tina went to the bank and withdrew $10,000 from the business account. They also said she tried to withdraw the $100,000 but then stopped.”

When police confronted Tina Williamson about the rumor that she was having a relationship with Rains, she denied it.

“First of all, this is completely disgusting to me… I know he loved me more than anything and I loved him more than anything, but it’s not that kind of love,” she told police during an interview.

But in the interview, she mentioned that Rains planned to transfer the title of his Mercedes to her but had not yet signed. When she showed it to police, there was what looked like blood spatter, and police sent it for analysis.

“There was actually blood on that title, and that blood matched Jack Rains,” said Chuck Hardy, a forensic analyst with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Killer relationship with Faith Jenkins. “The walls are really starting to close in.”

During a search of Williamson’s home, police found many of Rains’ personal items, including his military ID and Social Security card. Bullets were also found in her home that matched the bullet fragment found in Rains’ home. A gun was also found that matched the gun used to kill him.

Tina Williamson’s girlfriend gives police the key to the murder investigation

Police checked Tina Williamson’s phone locations for the day Jack Rains was murdered. Although she claimed to be home in Woodbury, her phone showed she was 20 miles away in Murfreesboro, where Rains lived. Police determined that during this time she called her friend Betty Olson. Olson told them that Tina Williamson had called her for a ride that day.

“Tina was walking down the street and when she got in the car, Tina had some kind of red substance on her that looked like blood,” Mayercik said. “And Tina explained that it was ketchup or tomato that she had eaten. It was like, ‘Wow, this is huge!’”

Surveillance video confirmed that Olson picked up Tina Williamson at a Walmart five minutes from Rains’ home. Olson agreed to wear a wire while speaking to Tina Williamson and recorded Tina Williamson telling her not to tell the police about the ride.

The final evidence against Tina Williamson came from Jack Rains’ boxer shorts. Tina Williamson’s DNA was found on them – evidence that she lied about having a sexual relationship with Rains.

In February 2009, a jury found Tina Williamson guilty of the murder of Jack Rains. She was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

“I think money was their main goal,” continued Eloise Rains, Jack’s daughter-in-law Killer relationship with Faith Jenkins. “That’s why she initiated the relationship in the first place. I guess he seemed like an easy target for her. He paid with his life.”
