Ewing, NJ (10/19/24) – The Kean University football team fell to the College of New Jersey 48-7 on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lions scored midway through the first quarter after blocking a Cougar punt to give them good field position. Three passes later, Trevor Bopp connected for a 15-yard reception and a 7-0 lead.

Kean responded later in the quarter as Buddha Payne‘s interception put the Cougars just outside the redzone. Rocco Pellegrini found John Kountouris for a seven-yard reception to tie the game at seven-all.

That would be the closest Kean would get that afternoon, as TCNJ scored 31 points in the second quarter to improve to 2-1 in the NJAC.

WITHIN THE NUMBERS:

Defensive Tommie Lee Pierson recorded eight tackles, two for a loss, while adding a sack and a forced fumble.

In special teams, Zamar Grove blocked a 36-yard field goal early in the third quarter.

Kean returns home to face Christopher Newport University on Saturday.
