Batman finally explains once and for all why he lets a kid fight crime with him – DC Comics

Batman and Robin are DC’s dynamic duo, although over the years it’s always felt strange that the world’s greatest detective would let a child tag along on his crusade against crime.

Things get even worse when you look at Batman’s rogues gallery, where villains like Joker, Bane, Scarecrow, and Poison Ivy all pose major threats to adults, let alone children.

Speaking of Batman, have you seen? The penguin still?

However, a new comic tackles this moral dilemma head-on by showing us how Batman and Robin’s very first case went and why Batman decided he was an important member of the team.

Batman and Robin: Year One #1 sees Batman taking Damian Wayne with him on his first patrol as Robin, and as expected, the two quickly get into trouble.

In the comic, it is revealed that Batman takes Damian with him to fight crime because his skills would be valuable to the innocent people of Gotham, but also because they will help him control his anger and be a hero and not a weapon .

Fans will know that this is the exact same reason he adopted Dick Grayson, as Dick’s parents were murdered in the same way as Bruce’s, and without Bruce’s interference, Dick could have become just as cold and vengeful as Batman.

It’s an important reveal and shows that Bruce understands that while his own methods bring about good, they are driven by false emotions and he doesn’t want his son to go down the same path he took, into darkness.

One can still argue that a good therapist would probably achieve the same results, but this is the DC Universe so nothing is that simple.

Batman and Robin: Year One #1 is available now and future editions will be published later this year.
