A court-ordered mental health evaluation leads to the arrest of a resident of The Plantation

A Leesburg man was arrested for drug possession when an officer found meth in his bag during a court-ordered mental health evaluation at The Plantation.

David Edward Brady

According to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded to 25304 Felicity Court in Leesburg to serve a court-ordered mental health evaluation around 11:30 p.m. Thursday. He tried several times to contact 52-year-old David Edward Brady to complete the assignment, but it turned out he wasn’t home.

Around 2:30 a.m. Friday, the deputy returned to Brady’s home for a possible burglary. He managed to meet with Brady, who believed his house had been broken into because the screen door on the porch was open. The deputy explained it was open because deputies accidentally left it on the prop after the earlier attempt to carry out the court order, the report said.

Brady was arrested at this time. During a search of the detention center prior to his transport to LifeStream Psychiatric Hospital, a behavioral health center, the deputy found a plastic bag containing a clear, crystalline substance in the right front pocket of his pants. Brady spontaneously stated that the substance was not his and that he put on his pants without checking his pockets. However, his car keys and state-issued ID were in the same bag, the report said.

The clear substance later tested positive for methamphetamine, the report said.

Brady was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine. The New York native was booked into the Lake County Jail on $2,500 bond.
