The first Nigerian restaurant in Colorado Springs will soon open to customers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The first Nigerian restaurant and lounge in Colorado Springs will hold its official soft opening on Saturday. Mayor Mobolade and the Colorado Springs Black Chamber of Commerce will be at the restaurant on N. Sierra Madre Street to officially open the orange building at 4 p.m. Owners and organizers of the event will serve a buffet of Nigerian and African cuisine including the popular dishes of jollof rice, egusi and more.

Both the owner and her brother are immigrants from Nigeria and are excited to bring African and Nigerian culture, cuisine and growing diversity here to the Springs and celebrate with everyone. They told 11 News there is a great need for African food, particularly Nigerian food, in the community.

“Me and my husband, my brother, are in the military,” said Adetoun Fisher, the owner of ÓWÀḾBẸ̀. “We decided to say, ‘Hey, we need food,’ you know? We don’t want people to travel long distances to get it… and we want people to stay too. We don’t want them to give up their contract and then go to Texas, especially the Africans of Texas.”

The restaurant was officially opened four to five months ago and the building exudes an atmosphere and atmosphere of relaxation and an African culture experience.

“How beautiful, how structural, how this place looks now,” explained Adejumobi Mobee, organizer of ÓWÀḾBẸ̀ and brother of Fisher. “I’m pretty sure if you were here about four months ago you wouldn’t recognize this place. So a lot of work is going into renovating this place.”

The word ÓWÀḾBẸ̀ has meaning to Fisher and Mobee, and their goal was to bring its meaning…to the restaurant.

“ÓWÀḾBẸ̀ means presence, presence of celebration, presence of happiness, laughter, music, food, mood, presence of anything you can think of to make you feel good,” Fisher explained.

Today, family, friends and community members will get a first look and a taste of everything the restaurant and lounge has to offer.

“A lot of people, even from all over Colorado, all over the United States, some come from Nigeria, from Chicago, from Texas,” Fisher explained. “A lot of people come to celebrate with us.”

Adetoun Fisher said she was so grateful to the community for all the help in bringing the restaurant to life with licenses, advice and support.

ÓWÀḾBẸ̀ officially opens its doors to customers on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m
