According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the New York Knicks waived Landry Shamet on Saturday.

The Knicks also waived TJ Warren and Chuma Okeke and reduced their roster to 12 players.

New York will “look to bring Shamet back once he recovers,” according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The Knicks face restrictions on how long they can play with fewer than 14 players on their regular-season roster, as ESPN’s Bobby Marks noted:

New York is allowed to have fewer than 14 players on its roster, but no more than a total of 28 days during the regular season and 14 consecutive days at a time.
They are currently $3,579,479 below the 2nd apron. https://t.co/u7gjRQDF4Y

According to SNY, Warren could also return to the Knicks’ roster this season Ian Begley. Begley wrote that the Knicks decided to waive Warren to remain under the second frontcourt because Shamet’s status was “up in the air.”

With the Landry Shamet situation uncertain, NYK had no room for TJ Warren under the second frontcourt. Warren had the support of some NYK coaches and the front office in building the roster. SNY has learned that he will be moving to Westchester as he will likely return to NYK later in the season.

Shamet dislocated his right shoulder during preseason play against the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday.

The Knicks are currently a little less than $3.6 million below the second luxury tax threshold.
