Stolen property recovered following burglary arrest in Habersham County

A Habersham County man remains in jail after being arrested for a burglary on New Liberty Road earlier this week. Dusty Everett Banfield, 34, was arrested after officers observed suspicious activity near the crime scene, according to a news release from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16, officers responded to a report of a break-in at a residence on north New Liberty Road. The suspect had left the property.

Shortly thereafter, a Habersham County officer observed a gold Ford Ranger parked suspiciously at the north end of New Liberty Road while a white male stood outside. When the officer attempted to make contact with the man, he re-entered the vehicle and fled the scene, the release said.

Officers pursued the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. As they approached the driver, officers said they discovered items in the bed of the truck, linking them to the burglary. They also identified the driver as Banfield.

Officers arrested Banfield on an active warrant and determined there was probable cause linking him to the burglary. They say they recovered all stolen property from his vehicle.

Banfield was booked into the Habersham County Detention Center on one count of probation violation and one count of first-degree burglary. His bail was set at $3,400.
