GLENWOOD CITY, Wis. (WEAU) – The former Glenwood City School District superintendent accused of stealing more than $290,000 is now officially charged with 17 felonies.

According to court records, Tim Johnson faces numerous charges of theft, money laundering, forgery and abuse of office.

The charges were filed on Friday, October 18th.

Back in August, an audit raised allegations that Johnson had stolen $290,792 in district funds over the course of a decade.

It said Johnson pocketed money that should have been used for courses at Viterbo University. The audit accused Johnson of failing to complete the courses for which he was paid a total of $200,515.

He is also accused of earning $90,277 through his work as superintendent.

Johnson and a former accountant were also accused of mismanaging $349,650 in school district investment funds.

Johnson also resigned as human resources director for the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District in early 2024.

The Chippewa Falls School District released a statement at the time saying Johnson had not taken any money from his district during his brief time as human resources director.

Johnson is due in court on November 21st.
