I finally saw Corpse Bride and it wasn't what I expected

I consider myself a pretty big fan of Tim Burton’s work. Above all, I have seen almost all of his films and television projects his best films. He is a director who has been a major influence on me in developing important television and film buffs. That’s why some of his films are my favorites, but others I didn’t watch until later. corpse bride is the main film that I have been putting off watching.

It just never seemed like the right time, and I often forget that there are still Tim Burton films that I’ve never seen. With the publication of Beetlejuice BeetlejuiceI’ve been rewatching some Tim Burton films that I love and watching others that I haven’t seen yet. That’s why I finally watched corpse bride, and it didn’t disappoint.

Corpse Bride has a more complicated love story than expected

corpse bride follows Victor (Johnny Depp) as he sets out to marry Victoria (Emily Watson), his bride-to-be from an arranged marriage. However, Victor accidentally proposes to Emily, the corpse bride (Helena Bonham Carter). Victor and Victoria only meet once before their upcoming wedding, but they have instant chemistry. The soon-to-be newlyweds fluctuate from fear of the upcoming wedding to excitement about it. The immediate love story between Victoria and Victor and Emily’s desire for Victor make this romance complicated for everyone involved.

Emily falls in love with Victor, but he never forgets Victoria. He wants to marry her. She still wants to marry him. Emily complicates things, but doesn’t do so in a malicious way. Victor also plans to marry Emily out of a sense of duty. He cares about the Corpse Bride, he just doesn’t love her.

Originally I thought so based on the promotional material corpse bride was a story about a man who fell in love with a corpse bride. I had no idea it was a love triangle. It’s not really a love triangle either, because Victor and Victoria clearly belong together. They basically have the same name. corpse bride is a love story, but also a story about the search for inner peace. Emily needs this to get out of the world of the living. It’s a film with some meaning Messages about griefin this case, grief over the loss of what life could have meant to you.

Although Emily is a corpse bride, she is not the villain. She does not force Victor to marry her and releases him from his sense of duty. I really liked the not easy love or triangle story. It had more depth than expected.

I didn’t know it was a musical

I had no idea there was a musical component corpse bride. The first singing scene surprised me, but I enjoyed it. None of these corpse bride The songs really made an impression, but I appreciate the musical aspects. Additionally, Burton’s long-time collaborator Danny Elfman provided the score corpse bride. This immediately made the film even better.

Burton is no stranger to musicals. I wanted more songs and musical performances.

“Corpse Bride” shows an evolution of Tim Burton’s stop-motion style

Burton did not direct The nightmare before Christmaswith that privilege belonging to Henry Selick, but he helped develop the concept art and characters for the film. The world of The nightmare before Christmas is an example of Burton’s stop-motion aesthetic, but we’ve also seen several projects that incorporate it, such as: Beetlejuiceand complete stop-motion films, such as Frankenweenie.

It’s easy to tell that this is a Tim Burton creation, but it looks different enough to be refreshing and unique. The world of corpse bride feels like a part of the Burton universe, but not a complete copy of all his other works.

I liked that it seemed to be inspired by Burton, but wasn’t quite like all of his other stop-motion projects. I also wanted to see more stop-motion films and TV shows from him to continue to see his style grow and change.

The murder plot reminds me of Coco

A big twist corpse bride is that Barkis Bittern (Richard E. Grant) is Emily’s con artist, ex-fiancé and murderer. It immediately became clear that he intended to commit the same fraud and crime against Victoria. I immediately thought of Pixar Coco. The films are not similar, but the seemingly trustworthy character who is the villain in disguise reminded me of Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt), one of them Pixar’s best villains.

Additionally, when the dead begin interacting with their loved ones, I also think about the similarities Coco. The similarities are unintentional, but it’s fun to compare them. I love CocoSo I really liked the aspect of a conniving man who gets his punishment in the end. Plus, I really like it corpse brideScenes in which the dead (briefly) return to their loved ones.

It made the ending so much sweeter for Barkis when he joined the dead, only to be destroyed by them.

It’s much more sentimental than expected

corpse bride has a lot of heart, especially with the idea of a lost love. You couldn’t help but feel sorry for Emily. She was just a woman who fell for a scammer. Many of us were there. Then Victor and Victoria were also very nice and sweet together. You couldn’t blame Victor for loving who he loved.

It’s a really good romantic film. Furthermore, as I said, the reunion of the dead with their loved ones also feels very sentimental. It makes you think of the deceased and the thought of losing love. corpse bride It also ends a bit darkly, which adds to the emotional impact of the film.
