CS Lee was asked on the Dexter’s Kill Room podcast whether Masuka may have been a secret killer

The Dexter Morgan prequel show is just around the corner and Paramount is stoking interest in the Dexter-verse by releasing one YouTube series featuring former members of the Dexter The cast watches previous episodes of the series with a special guest. The studio is designed in the style of one of Dexter’s killing rooms. Episode 5 was released on YouTube on October 15, 2024 and featured CS Lee sitting down with him Tim Chantarangsu from Wild N Outand they revisited Season 3, Episode 5, “Turning Biminese,” which featured one of Masuka’s all-time iconic lines. CS Lee had previously appeared on the show to talk about his character and he was open to questions from Chantarangsu. One particular question raised an interesting theory about Masuka and his mysterious past:

Have you ever wished your character would be turned into a secret killer?

There have always been rumors among the fan community about Masuka’s possible extracurricular activities, with the character primarily appearing in the Miami Metro Homicide filming locations and nothing actually known about his past. CS Lee responded to the question as follows:

You know, it could have gone that way. I didn’t know if I would be dead or alive at the end of the season.

This statement in no way means that Vince Masuka was a secret murderer, but he does admit that the writers could have gone that route if they had wanted to, and they might still do if the return of a young Masuka was confirmed Dexter: Original Sin.

Dexter: Original Sin could give Masuka a chance to show a darker side to his character

Vince Masuka was a great character Dexterbut he has never been explored in depth, so audiences actually know very little about him. Masuka provided the dirty one-liners and was primarily the comic relief in the series, but there were hints that his character may have had a more sinister side. In Season 2, Masuka feared that FBI Special Agent Frank Lundy might look too deeply into his Internet search history and stumble upon the treasure trove of niche porn he had been browsing through. There were also other suggestions scattered throughout the series that suggested his superficial jokes carried an additional layer of complexity and potential depravity.

Dexter: Original Sin has the perfect opportunity to explore the darker side of Masuka and peel back the layers of it Dexter Origin story of the character. Of course, Dexter will be the focus again, but it would be great to see more of Masuka. Maybe it wasn’t just Dexter who committed murder, and it could turn out that his fellow lab geek was researching his own dark passenger. This could be linked directly Dexter: Resurrection if Masuka returns in this show too. It will undoubtedly add additional texture to his character, especially if he turns out to share Dexter’s love of killing. As interesting as it would be to explore Masuka’s inner darkness, it might do the character a disservice to turn him from one of the lighter comedic characters into a total psychopath. However, this internet search history is bound to reveal something darker about Masuka’s extracurricular activities, even if it doesn’t involve a murderous streak.
