NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University football lost to New Haven 21-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference game at Jess Dow Field. The loss dropped Southern to 2-5 overall and 1-4 in NE10, while New Haven improved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

Joe DiGello had a season and game-best 13 tackles, one of which was a loss. Joenel Figueroa had eight tackles, including a team-best three solo tackles. Shaun Martin had two tackles for a loss Derek Omoregie had seven tackles and two quarterback hurries.

Offensive, Keith Ridley was 21 of 33 for 226 yards Jaylon Tucker had five receptions for a game-high 92 yards.

Southern fell behind early as New Haven scored on its first two possessions of the day to take a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. The two teams played back and forth in the second quarter and went into halftime with the Chargers holding a two-point lead.

After halftime, UNH spent eight minutes of the third quarter before scoring with a 35-yard touchdown pass to take a 21-0 lead. On its next possession, Southern forced its way downfield and moved the chains 85 yards in 11 plays, but was stopped right on its doorstep.

Southern Connecticut is back in action on Saturday, October 26th when it hosts Franklin Pierce at Jess Dow Field at 1 p.m. This game will be played on Owls’ Blitz Pink Day in support of breast cancer awareness.
