The Boston Celtics are reportedly releasing a 6-year NBA player

Lonnie Walker is coming off a season in which he appeared in 58 games for the Brooklyn Nets.

He finished the year with averages of 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest while shooting 42.3% from the field and 38.4% from three-point range.

In the offseason, Walker signed a contract with the Boston Celtics.

However, ESPN’s Bobby Marks reports that he will be delivered.

Via Marks: “Boston waives Lonnie Walker IV, sources confirm to ESPN.”

It had been a long time since Walker made the squad, but he played well in the preseason, in many cases fans had wanted him to make the team.

The former Miami star was the 18th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

In addition to the Nets, he also spent time with the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Walker’s career averages are 9.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 42.2% from the field and 35.6% from three-point range in 322 regular season games.

He also appeared in 19 NBA playoff games.

During the 2023 season, Walked helped the Lakers reach the Western Conference Finals.

Via Jay King of The Athletic: “Including luxury taxes, it would have cost the Celtics eight figures to keep Lonnie Walker on the roster. The financial reality was just a hard hill for him to climb.”

The Celtics will play their first game of the 2024-25 regular season on October 22nd when they host the New York Knicks in Boston.
