Texas-Georgia Injury Update: Latest Insider Stocks

AUSTIN – The Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs are both dealing with injuries ahead of their top-five matchup Saturday night in Austin.

During ESPN’s “College GameDay,” college football insider Pete Thamel reported that Texas receiver Isaiah Bond “looked great” at practice this week after suffering an ankle injury in the win over the Oklahoma Sooners. It was upgraded from questionable to probable in Friday’s student-athlete availability report.

“Isaiah Bond, a prospect here, is expected to come back and play,” Thamel said. “He was struggling with an ankle injury and had limited training at the start of the week. He looked great last practice in Texas and should be good to go.”

During the show, “College GameDay” also revealed that Georgia star offensive lineman Tate Ratledge is doubtful due to an upper ankle sprain. Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reported Friday that Ratledge will likely only be used in “emergency situations.”

As for Georgia star pass rusher Mykel Williams, he is expected to be limited as he battles an injury of his own. Although Williams has yet to record a sack this season, the 6-5, 265-pound defensive lineman will be a threat to Texas’ O-line with the snaps he plays. He totaled nine sacks in the 2022 and ’23 seasons combined.

The Longhorns will be without safety Derek Williams Jr., who suffered a season-ending injury against the Sooners.

“Prayers for D-Will. What a great guy,” Texas safety Michael Taaffe said. “He will have a great career. His job is not done this year. He was one of the first in the building this morning. And man, how great is that. That shows his character right there. And so he still is. “He’ll be there, he’ll play an important role on this team, but I’m so sad to hear this news. He’s really my brother and I’m definitely playing for him.

No. 1 Texas and No. 5 Georgia kick off in Austin at 6:30 p.m. CT.
