UFC Vegas 99 start time, full fight card details | Pereira vs. Hernandez

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to APEX TONIGHT (Sat. Oct. 19, 2024) to host UFC Vegas 99 in Las Vegas, Nevada, with a middleweight bout between the two Anthony Hernández And Michel Pereira. Co-headlining the event, streamed by ESPN+, will be a bantamweight showdown Rob font And Kyler Phillips.

What’s hot:

Anthony Hernandez has quietly had a good run in the Octagon, scoring five straight wins and remaining undefeated in the last four years. “Fluffy” is currently ranked 13th in the official UFC rankings, but with one more win (maybe two) he could well move into the top 10. Of his five wins during his run, he has defeated four of his opponents, and now the submission specialist is looking for another highlight-reel finish as he takes on one of the most dangerous (and entertaining) fighters in his first-ever headlining event the division, who wants to make his own mark with Michel Pereira.

After a 1-2 start to his UFC career, Pereira turned things around, winning eight straight fights, including five at welterweight, before deciding to move back up to 185 pounds for good, winning three straight fights at that weight Class. What’s impressive about his jump to the top is that he defeated all three of his opponents in the first round with a combined fight time of just three minutes, earning him three consecutive Performance of the Night awards. That’s why Pereira (No. 14) is a fan favorite. He now has a chance to challenge for a top 10 spot if he can stop “Fluffy,” but it will be a difficult task to finish him since the last time he was finished was in 2020 , courtesy of Kevin Holland. This fight has all the makings of a fight that could lead to one of the best fights of the year.

What is not:

Matheus Nicolau – the No. 7 ranked flyweight in the game – is looking to break his two-fight losing streak against him Asu Almabayev who is on a 16-fight winning streak. Asu has won his first three fights in the Octagon and is looking to continue his winning streak. However, I don’t like this fight, if only because one man is on fire while the other is struggling very badly. Why do UFC matchmakers keep doing this?

Original map vs. actual map:

There have been no significant changes made to this event except Cameron Smotherman competes against Jake Hadley at short notice Brady Hiestand.

Injuries:

Rayanne dos Santos was in a row Alice Ardelean in a women’s strawweight bout before she was forced to retire last month due to a broken arm. It was eventually replaced by Melissa Martínezwho desperately needs a win. In fact, Martinez failed to impress in her UFC debut, losing to Elise Reed by unanimous decision. It was the first loss of her professional MMA career after starting 0-7 at the regional level. If she goes 0-2 under the UFC banner, it won’t look good. As for Ardelean, she’s in the same boat after losing a split decision in her first fight in the Octagon Shauna Bannon.

New Blood:

Cameron Smotherman later received an invitation to make his UFC debut against Jake Hadley Brady Hiestand was excluded from the event for unknown reasons. As a pro, Smotherman is 11-4 and is currently on a three-fight winning streak. After the defeat on Contender Series In August 2023, “The Baby-Faced Killer” won three straight fights under the Fury FC banner and now looks to make a splash in his UFC debut against Hadley, who is even at 3-3 so far in the Octagon.

This is what the “Prelims” look like:

Being inconsistently consistent appears to be Elise Reed’s main goal, as she has compiled a 3-4 record since her UFC debut in 2021, alternating between wins and losses. She has to accept defeat Crazy Godinez over a year ago and is now facing a major challenge Jessica Penneone of the most experienced fighters under the UFC banner, has been fighting for promotion for over a decade. However, she is just 2-5 in her last seven fights and enters the event on a two-fight losing streak.

We’re sticking to our theme of the fighters coming to the event on duel sleds because both Joselyne Edwards And Tamires Vidal will fight for their UFC lives as they try to avoid their third straight loss when they face off in the women’s bantamweight division.

In his second go-round with the UFC Brad Katona delivered an impressive 2-1 and was last seen winning Jesse Butler Earlier this year by unanimous decision. The former Ultimate Fighter (TUF) champion will compete Jean Matsumotowho has never experienced defeat in his career. In fact, the talented 135-pound fighter is 15-0 and made an impressive UFC debut with his loss Dan Argueta via rear-naked choke at the beginning of the year.

Who urgently needs a win:

There are several fighters on this card who desperately need wins as most of them come into the event with two fight penalties, but we move on Austen Lane Here. Lane’s first three fights in the Octagon didn’t go his way. His debut ended prematurely and he was awarded a No Contest (NC) due to an accidental eye poke against Justin Tafa. In the rematch he was knocked out by Tafa (see here). Seven months later he was finished Jhonata Dinizand is now going into his big showdown against him Robelis Despaigne in a situation where you absolutely have to win. As for Despaigne, he needs to improve because after coming into the promotion on a four-fight winning streak, all by first-round knockout, and then defeating fight fans with an 18-second destruction of Josh Parisian In his UFC debut, his gas tank was exposed Waldo Cortes Acosta last summer. He has proven he has power and the ability to end fights early, but he will need to display a balanced attack if he wants to hold on to the promotion for a long time.

Interest level: 5/10

In the co-main event Rob font will look to end his two-fight losing streak Kyler Phillips. Font has been struggling of late, losing four of his last five fights, although he hasn’t been on the losing end in any of those defeats. Still, the promotion saw fit to give him a spot in the co-main event despite his recent shortcomings. As for Phillips, he’s enjoying great success, compiling a 6-1 record in the Octagon, although his last three wins have each come a year apart. That’s because The Matrix hasn’t been very active and this will only be his fourth fight in three years.

Daniel Pineda‘s run in the Octagon was strange, to say the least. After the defeat Herbert Burns He has only managed a 1-3-1 record since then via technical knockout (TKO). He comes into his fight against Darren Elkins on a, you guessed it, two-fight losing streak. As for Elkins, “The Damage” will be stepping foot in the Octagon for the first time in over a year and was last seen winning TJ Brown. The veteran has been competing for promotion for 14 years and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.

After a difficult start to his UFC career in which he went 4-2, Charles Johnson has picked up three wins in a row and found his rhythm after a terrible loss in three fights. “InnerG” picked up a knockout victory Joshua Van last summer, so his confidence is at an all-time high. He will compete against each other Sumudaerjiwho is currently on a two-fight losing streak. Another loss could mean the end of the UFC road for him.

Enjoy the fights!
