Chris Godwin is not looking ahead.

Chris Godwin is on track for his best season since being drafted in 2017. And what a time; he is in a contract year.

Joe understands that drops are really, really subjective. One man’s drop is another man’s uncatchable ball. For example, drops are not an official NFL statistic. So drop stats can be found all over the map.

So if you trust the drop stats and the PFF tribe, few, if any, receivers have better hands in crunch time than Godwin. Per the PFF strainGodwin hasn’t dropped a pass in the fourth quarter since Week 1 of 2021. That’s crazy.

It also makes it even crazier to see how the Bucs decided late in Atlanta not to give the ball to their proven handball players, which blew up in their face in an annoying choke job.

This decision, Code Turtle, still makes Joe angry.

Godwin appeared yesterday on “The Insiders,” which airs weekdays on the NFL Network. There, Ira’s friend Battista, who was performing with Mike Garafolo and Judy Battista, asked Godwin about the next four games on the schedule. She described next month’s games as crucial to the season.

Godwin wouldn’t go there, especially because he has spent little to no time studying the schedule outside of Baltimore, where the Bucs play on Monday night.

In short, Godwin said the Bucs aren’t good enough to look ahead to their future opponents.

“We’re still trying to put together four great quarters of football, which we haven’t done yet,” Godwin said.

Joe can’t completely buy this. Wasn’t the victory over Philadelphia a defeat? If you want to be nitpicky, the Bucs may not have played particularly well in the win over Washington.

But yeah, in the win over the slimy Saints, the second quarter was a nightmare.

So will Godwin have his best season? He could. But as long as he continues to play like he has, Joe believes the Bucs are in good shape.
