UH’s Renu Khator tops the list of highest-paying public universities in Texas

Khator’s compensation totaled $1,901,444 last year. She earned $1,349,780 in base pay, while the remainder came from bonuses, other pay and benefits. The second highest paid people in the country were administrators at the University of Kentucky, the University of Delaware, the University of Nebraska System Office and Texas State University System Chancellor Brian McCall.

Although Khator topped the list in total compensation, one president earned more than her in base salary: Jay Hartzell of the University of Texas at Austin, who earned a salary of $1,428,042 and a total salary of $1,454,535.

To collect the data, the higher education publication surveyed public doctoral universities and public university or college systems with at least three campus locations or 50,000 enrolled students. At the time of publication, the Chronicle of Higher Education had not received data from several universities, including Prairie View A&M University, the Texas A&M University System and Texas Southern University.
