Men’s tennis advances to the second round of the ITA Texas Regionals at five

Waco, Texas – Texas Men’s Tennis advanced five of its six singles players to the second round of the ITA Texas Regional Championships on Friday at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco.

Junior No. 29 Jonah BraswellSophomore #124 Lucas Brownand freshmen Evan Burnett, Timo Legout And Calvin Wang Everyone won their first round games in the main draw without losing a set. Braswell defeated Filip Apltauer of TCU 6-3, 6-4, Brown defeated Maks Silagy of SMU 6-4, 6-4, Burnett defeated Abdulraheem Isa of Prairie View A&M 6-2, 6-2, Legout defeated Takeyasu Sekiguchi of Texas Tech 6-1, 6-1 and Wang defeated Leon Nickel of Lamar 6-4, 6-3. In the only defeat, newbie Rahul Sachdev lost to top seed #17 JC Roddick 6-1, 6-0.

On Friday, third-seeded Braswell plays SMU’s Noah McDonald at 10:30 a.m. CT, while the other five games are at noon, including No. 9 seed Brown vs. Rice’s Kabeer Kapasi and Wang vs No. 49 seed Zsombar Velcz of Baylor, Evan Burnett against 8th seed No. 116 Togan Tokac of Texas A&M and 9-16 seed Legout against Pedro Sasso of UT-Arlington.

In doubles, Wang and Sachdev lost their match to Sasso and Yazid Lahjomri of UT-Arlington 8-4, while the pairs of Legout and Brown and Braswell and Burnett both had byes in the first round.

Legout and Brown will face SMU’s Noah McDonald and Xavier Calvelo at 9 a.m. CT on Saturday, and Braswell and Burnett will face UT-Arlington’s Daniel Perez-Caraballo and Ian Uraga at 9:45 a.m. CT.
