Football Recap: Williamsport narrowly falls to Hollidaysburg | News, sports, jobs

Williamsport’s run defense played well Friday, holding Hollidaysburg to just 50 rushing yards for the week after giving up 536 to Berwick. While the defense played well, the Golden Tigers were able to secure a 30-26 victory over the Millionaires.

Hollidaysburg was unable to establish a run game against the Millionaires. Instead, the Golden Tigers turned to quarterback Maddox Bainey, who threw for 353 yards.

The Millionaires held to a 26-16 lead before Hollidaysburg rallied. Giovanni White scored on a 69-yard punt return to put Williamsport ahead by 10.

But just six seconds later, the Golden Tigers struck with a 78-yard touchdown pass before Bainey threw a 12-yard pass with 51 seconds left to seal the victory.

Tevin Williams threw for 68 yards, Zion Hughes threw for 74 and Elijah Way threw for 65. Jamel Bailey led Williamsport with 80 rushing yards, while Lucas Naughton had 30 and Samir Williams ran for 25 yards.

Hughesville 24, Wyalusing 7

Ayden Hunsinger ran the ball 43 times for Wyalusing, but Hughesville never let him reach the end zone as the Spartans defeated Wyalusing 24-7 and improved to 5-4.

The Spartans’ defense played strong, limiting Wyalusing to just 194 yards of total offense – 177 of which came on the ground. Hunsinger had 159 of those yards.

Keegan Smith hit a 42-yard field goal 19 seconds into the second quarter for a 3-0 lead. Blake Davis had a 30-yard touchdown strike to Conor Knight with 5:06 to play to give Hughesville a quick 10-0 lead.

Wyalusing’s Jonathan Earle scored on a two-yard run to make the game 10-7. Late in the third quarter, Davis found Connor Anstadt for a 47-yard touchdown pass for a 17-7 lead. The Spartans scored their final touchdown when Haydn Maneval made a 13-yard fumble recovery.

Warrior Run 30, Central Columbia 12

After leading by just two points at halftime, Warrior Run turned it on defensively in the second half and shut down the Blue Jays while scoring 16 points en route to a 30-12 road win.

James Keifer threw for 234 yards and reached the end zone twice with throws to Sam Hall (20 yards) and Cohen Zechman (5).

The Defenders defeated Central Columbia 234-155. On the ground, Colby Lebarron was a workhorse, rushing for 114 yards on 21 carries and having a rushing touchdown. Eli Butler rushed for 36 yards and also scored a touchdown.

Kole Hummer caught a 36-yard pass from Parker Day to give Central an early 6-0 lead before Warrior Run scored on its next possession. Then Butler ran a 5-yard touchdown to take a 7-6 lead. Sam Hall then caught a 20-yard shot from Keifer with 1:28 left in the first, giving the defenders a 14-6 lead heading into the second.

Day would throw in Dylan Shultz for a 50-yard touchdown late in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 14-12. But this would be the closest thing the Blue Jays would get to rallying. The Warrior Run defense would not allow Central Columbia to find the end zone the rest of the night.
