Good sport: Clovis East’s star quarterback Ty Miller

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) — Clovis East’s Ty Miller has been the winningest player over the past four seasons.

“Just when a senior starts to slow down, the game gets a little easier,” Miller said.

Miller’s maturity is paramount in his fourth year as the starting quarterback.

He has led the T-Wolves to a perfect 7-0 record and a ranking in the top 20 in the state.

“He does the right things, says the right things, so it really makes my job easier when you have a guy like that in the locker room,” head coach Brandon Nagle said.

Miller has 21 touchdown passes with just three interceptions. He can also do it on the ground, averaging 10 yards per carry for over 400 yards.

“He’s an old-fashioned, old-school guy. “It’s always about the team for him,” Nagle said.

“He tries to call me tough without wanting me to do anything too stupid,” Miller said.

This physical style comes from one of his childhood idols.

“Growing up, my favorite QB was Taysom Hill at BYU,” Miller said.

Hill is now the Swiss Army Knife utility player for the New Orleans Saints.

But before his time as QB in Provo, he went on a two-year mission trip, which Miller will also undertake.

“I told them right before I was recruited by anyone that this was my goal and what I was going to do,” Miller said.

In May, Miller committed to play quarterback at UC Davis, but he won’t begin his first year until 2027.

“I’m a quarterback now and I’m going to be something different in the future,” Miller said.

After his time at UC Davis, Miller plans to attend medical school to become a doctor.

“I want to become a dermatologist or anesthesiologist. I love anatomy. I took anatomy. It was a great course,” Miller said.

But this week’s Friday night class takes place on the field at Lamonica Stadium.

Where the undefeated T-Wolves take on their rival Clovis High in the “Battle for the Boot.”

“It’s a really big deal and we’re excited to be a part of it,” Nagle said.

Miller also faces Cougars junior QB Deagan Rose, who is committed to Oregon State.

“I’ve known him for a while. He’s a great man and a great quarterback. To be able to compete with someone like that, I think it’s a great opportunity,” Miller said.

It’s an opportunity to put Clovis East in the driver’s seat for a TRAC title.

“I respect everyone, but I fear no one,” Miller said.
