Haunted House raises money for Habitat for Humanity Hiawathaland

MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WLUC) – Ghouls and ghosts are roaming the halls of Habitat for Humanity Hiawathaland for the next two weekends.

Annabel, a spooky doll, and the other dolls say they like to closely monitor the haunted house’s visitors.

“We want to make sure everyone stays calm and collected,” Annabel said.

And if not?

“We’re making them angrier,” Annabel said.

Annabel and her friends haunt the halls during Habitat for Humanity Hiawathaland’s seventh annual spooky fundraiser.

Executive Director Ann MacGregor says the fundraiser brings in more than 30% of the money the nonprofit raises annually at events.

“The fundraisers help us have the money for our home repair programs and work on our rehab homes in our community,” MacGregor said.

MacGregor said the organization relies almost 100% on money from fundraisers and donations.

“This is extremely important for us. I mean, the more people come forward for this. They’re not just having fun,” MacGregor said. “You really are helping maybe a co-worker, their friends, a family member, a neighbor, anyone in the community.”

MacGregor said community members can also help the nonprofit by getting involved.

“We need volunteers and no matter what your interest is, we can find them for you,” MacGregor said. “Whether you want to work on a fundraiser, work in our building, help with landscaping or whatever you want to do, we have the right job for you.”

The haunted house costs $6 for children, $8 for adults and $30 for families of up to 6 people.
